 H I S T O R Y

The appraisal profession started in Canada in the late 1920’s, when most members were mainly cost estimators.

The Appraisal Institute of Canada was established in Winnipeg in 1938. It adopted its first Code of Ethics in 1942.

The first chapter in the Province of Quebec was established in 1958. It published its first appraisal course in 1960.

In 1998, the Institute adopted the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). This was replaced by the Standards in 2000 and this has been updated from time to time since then.
